Father Angel Antonio Diaz-Perez was born and raised in Puerto Rico on November 1965. He joined the Dominican seminary when he was 18 Years old, after finishing High School. He attended the Dominican University, Universidad Central de Bayam6n, Puerto Rico from 1984-1993 where he received a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a Master's degree in Divinity and Counseling. He was ordained as a priest on May 31,1996.
He has completed a wide range of assignments since becoming a priest. He has served as parochial vicar or as pastor in churches in Puerto Rico. He served the Dominican Order in Puerto Rico, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.
Father Angel came to New Orleans in July of 2013 per invitation of Father Sergio Serrano, OP. At that time, he was at Blessed Seelos Church in Bywater. Then, he was sent to St. Jane de Chantal Church, in Abita Springs, in August of 20 I 3, where he was assigned as a resident priest. He has helped the American as well as the Hispanic Community. He was in charge of some of the English Masses at St. Jane de Chantal Church, 1-2 times per week, and was sometimes assigned to the Masses at the Mission Church of St. Michael in Bush.
Father Angel has significantly contributed to the Mary Queen of Peace Church Spanish prayer group, the churches of Annunciation Catholic Church in Bogalusa and the Holy Family Church, for celebration the Spanish Mass; in Franklinton as well as being assigned to the growing Hispanic Northshore community of Abita Springs, Covington, Mandeville, Bogalusa and Folsom.
Father Angel has been able to form a group of young men and girls as devout Altar servers. As a true Dominican priest Father Angel is a great teacher and has taught the community much about the Catholic faith. More importantly, Father Angel has actively prepared the community for the Sacraments of the Catholic faith and has married many couples in the Church.
During all these years. Father Angel also served as one of the main priests in the Hispanic Apostolate Office in New Orleans, where he would travel 2-3 times a week from the Northshore to celebrate Masses, hear Confessions, give Wednesday Bible classes and help Father Sergio Serrano, OP. record weekly radio programs and homilies. There are many other priestly duties too numerous to count that he has performed during these past years.
Lately Fr. Angel was working as the Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Chalmette, from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022.
Father Angel is truly devoted to his community wherever this may be, as he is always looking out for the lost sheep.
